I was an assistant principal at an elementary school. Before that, I was a youth pastor. I always wanted my work to make a difference, and I loved serving students and families. But I was quietly falling apart. I was overworked, underpaid, and on call at all hours. I remember crying in the bathroom at work, wondering how something so meaningful could feel so wrong for me. When a close friend passed away, the idea of "someday" broke for me. I saw that I was making everyone else's dreams possible and putting mine off.
